The Power of Women Supporting Women: A Friendship That Inspires

I still remember the moment I met Jo, founder of The Crafty Kit Company. It was at the very beginning of my business, at a trade show filled with excitement, nerves, and that constant undercurrent of “am I doing this right?”

We were both middle-aged women navigating new challenges, balancing family, business, and self-care, and yet something clicked immediately. Somewhere between our conversations, our encouragement, and the way we simply showed up for each other, a friendship was born.

Over the years, that friendship has become a lifeline. Despite living miles apart - me in England, Jo in Scotland - we talk almost every day, sharing the triumphs, the setbacks, the small wins, and the big lessons. We’ve shared holidays in India, a restorative yoga retreat in Portugal, and our quarterly work-and-recharge weekends, where we combine business planning with laughter, reflection, and simply being present for each other.

She supports me in ways that no one else can because she truly understands the juggling act women perform every day: running businesses, caring for children, supporting ageing parents, and still finding space for self-care. She makes me feel seen, understood, and empowered.
